アーティストステートメント/ARTIST STATEMENT

匂坂祐子の作品は、幼き日にラファエロの《聖母子像》に触れた原体験を源とし、
「無条件の愛」と「存在の光」を探求する絵画として歩み続けています。
その核には、誰もが内側に抱く魂の尊厳と、存在意義への問いが静かに息づいています。

作品は、黄金背景テンペラ古典技法と油彩・テンペラ混合技法を基盤に、
金箔・プラチナ箔・漆といった日本の伝統素材を織り込むことで、
東西の美意識が呼応し合う独自の世界を生み出します。
透明な光と抒情的な色彩は絵肌の下で呼吸し、
祈り・救済・祝福といった精神性を象徴的に立ち上げます。

それぞれの作品は、
「生と死を超えた魂の救済」という問いへの応答であり、
混迷の時代において、心に平安と希望の光をもたらすメッセージです。
コロナ禍に制作された〈祈り〉のシリーズ以降、
作品は個人的感情を越え、
普遍的な希望・癒し・絆として、人類に開かれた祈りへと昇華されています。

作品群は、ローマ法王庁やモナコ王室をはじめとする世界各地に収蔵され、
国境や文化を超えて響く「愛の言語」として旅を続けています。
その歩みは、作品が放つ静かな祈りが、
異なる背景を持つ人々の心に確かに触れた証でもあります。

教育活動や絵本の制作もまた作品と連動し、
未来を担う人々へ 「創造の火種」 を手渡す営みとして続いています。
その根底にある思索は、次の言葉として作品に息づいています。

「人生は芸術であり、芸術は自己の存在意義を見出すものである。」

この言葉が示すように、
作品は生きることそのものの光を映し出す鏡であり、
人々の心に愛と希望の余韻を静かに灯し続けます。
これからも作品は、
誰もの内にある消えない光を照らし続けます。

Yuko Sagisaka — Artist Statement

The works of Yuko Sagisaka originate from an early encounter with Raphael’s Madonna and Child,
awakening a lifelong pursuit of unconditional love and the light of existence.
At their core rests a quiet contemplation of the dignity of the soul
and the universal question of human purpose.

Each work is grounded in the traditional tempera practices of the Medieval–Renaissance period,
expanded through oil–tempera mixed techniques,
and enriched with Japanese materials such as gold leaf, platinum leaf, and lacquer.
Through this fusion, Eastern and Western aesthetics resonate,
creating surfaces where transparency, poetic color, and inner radiance
give form to prayer, redemption, and blessing.

Every work responds to the enduring question of
the salvation of the soul beyond life and death,
offering peace and hope to those who encounter it in turbulent times.
Since the Prayer series created during the pandemic,
the works have moved beyond the personal,
rising as a universal message of hope, healing, and connection
—an open prayer addressed to humanity.

The works are held in collections including
the Holy See and the Princely House of Monaco,
continuing their journey as a language of love that transcends borders and cultures.
This path reflects a simple truth:
the quiet radiance of the works resonates with hearts across different worlds.

Educational practices and picture-book creation accompany the works,
passing forward seeds of imagination to future generations.
The underlying reflection is expressed in the following words, held within the works themselves:

“Life is art, and art reveals the meaning of our existence.”

This belief shapes each work as
a mirror that reflects the light within life itself,
