Interview Announcement
I am pleased to share that a long-form interview
with tempera painter Yuko Sagisaka
has been published on Nihonbashi Art.jp.
In this interview, I speak in depth about
the origins of my artistic vision,
my creative philosophy,
and the journey of my international activities.

revealing aspects of my artistic practice

The Origin of My Art and “Unconditional Love”
At the age of five, I was deeply moved by Raphael’s Madonna and Child.
This early experience became the foundation of my lifelong pursuit
of the universal theme of “unconditional love.”
In the interview, I reflect on this origin
and the message of compassion embedded in my work.
A Fusion of Eastern and Western Aesthetics
While rooted in the classical gold-ground tempera techniques
of the Renaissance,
my work incorporates traditional Japanese materials such as lacquer,
gold leaf, washi paper, and platinum leaf.
This fusion creates a unique visual language
characterized by poetic sensitivity, refined color,
and a luminous transparency.
“Salvation of the Soul” and “Light of Hope”
My work carries a profound message of spiritual transcendence—
the salvation of the soul beyond life and death.
In today’s uncertain world, I hope my paintings
offer a sense of peace and a light of hope.
The “Prayer” series, created during the pandemic,
embodies this wish for universal love and connection.
International Recognition and Activities
My works are included in prestigious collections,
including the Vatican and the Monaco Royal Family,
and have been exhibited in over 50 cities across 25 countries.
In the interview, I speak about how my art
resonates across cultures and borders.
